چکیده

We introduce a choice of reference wave functions that allows multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT) to describe ultracold collisions involving high-partial-wave quantum numbers L. This requires a careful standardization of the MQDT reference wave functions at long range to ensure their linear independence. To illustrate the simplicity and accuracy of the resulting theory, we perform a comprehensive calculation of L 2 Fano-Feshbach resonances in the range 0–1000 G for the scattering of 40K +87Rb in their lowest hyperfine states. Moreover, we derive analytic expressions for our universal set of MQDT parameters in the threshold regime.

Cold collisions in strong laser fields: partial wave analysis of magnesium collisions

We have developed Monte Carlo wave function simulation schemes to study cold collisions between magnesium atoms in a strong red-detuned laser field. In order to address the strong-field problem, we extend the Monte Carlo wave function framework to include the partial wave structure of the threedimensional system. The average heating rate due to radiative collisions is calculated with two differ...

On the role of the magnetic dipolar interaction in cold and ultracold collisions: numerical and analytical results

We present a detailed analysis of the role of the magnetic dipole-dipole interaction in cold and ultracold collisions. We focus on collisions between magnetically trapped NH molecules, but the theory is general for any two paramagnetic species for which the electronic spin and its space-fixed projection are (approximately) good quantum numbers. It is shown that dipolar spin relaxation is direct...

Multichannel quantum defect theory for rovibrational transitions in ultracold molecule-molecule collisions

Multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT) has been widely applied to resonant and nonresonant scattering in a variety of atomic collision processes. In recent years, the method has been applied to cold collisions with considerable success, and it has proven to be a computationally viable alternative to full close-coupling (CC) calculations when spin, hyperfine, and external field effects are in...

Quantum defect theory for cold chemistry with product-quantum-state resolution

We present a formalism for cold and ultracold atom-diatom chemical reactions that combines a quantum closecoupling method at short range with quantum defect theory at long range. The method yields full state-to-state rovibrationally resolved cross sections as in standard close-coupling (CC) calculations but at a considerably less computational expense. This hybrid approach exploits the simplici...

Multiscale quantum-defect theory for two interacting atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap

We present a multiscale quantum-defect theory for two identical atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap that combines the quantum-defect theory for the van der Waals interaction B. Gao, Phys. Rev. The theory provides a systematic understanding of two atoms in a trap, from deepl...
